The New York Jets saw their modest two game winning streak halted last Thursday when they were dismantled by a clearly superior New England Patriots team, 27 – 14. The Jets put together an impressive opening drive to take an early 7 – 0 lead. After that it was all Patriots. By midway through the second quarter the Patriots were leading 14 – 7. The Jets kept the game reasonably within reach thereafter, but they never really threatened to overtake the Patriots at any point in the second half. The Patriots did
what they had to do to complete a routine victory over an inferior Jets team.
The Jets go on the road to play the Baltimore Ravens this week. The Ravens have struggled a bit this season, especially when Lamar Jackson has missed time due to injuries. The Ravens defense was a mess earlier in the season, giving up 37+ points in four of their first five games in a shocking display of defensive ineptitude completely uncharacteristic of the Ravens organization. Since then the Ravens have turned things around on defense. They have allowed less than 20 points in each of their last five games. With Lamar Jackson healthy again and the Ravens defense looking like the Ravens defense again, the Ravens are beginning to resemble the Super Bowl contender many thought they would be this season. Unless the Ravens suffer a letdown or the Jets get one of Justin Fields’ occasional great games, it’s difficult to see the Jets being all that competitive with a Ravens team just now rounding into shape for a run at the playoffs.
Let’s take a look at the current odds for this game according to FanDuel Sportsbook. The current line has the Jets road underdogs by a whopping 14.5 points. The game has an over/under of 44.5 points. On the moneyline the Jets are +750 while the Patriots are -1200.
