Kenyon Sadiq was placed in the concussion protocol during the third quarter of the Jets’ Week 5 win over the Cleveland Browns. The rookie tight end finished the game with only 13 snaps, 8 of which came on passing plays.
Naturally you might look at that playing time and assume it was the result of leaving the game early with an injury.
I went back, though, and looked at how the Jets allocated playing time at the position prior to Sadiq exiting the game with just under 6:00 to go in the third quarter.
These are the snap totals up to that point.

And the number of snaps on passing plays prior to Sadiq’s exit go as follows.

I like to think that I am capable of offering detailed analysis on this site, but some things are pretty obvious.
Kenyon Sadiq is far and away the Jets’ biggest threat at the tight end position. Two weeks ago against the Detroit Lions he went over 100 receiving yards.
It’s difficult to comprehend the Jets giving more snaps total and in the passing game to Mason Taylor. It’s just as difficult to comprehend giving Jeremy Ruckert an equal share.
I don’t know how to dive deeper into this other than to say Sadiq’s total snap share and share of snaps on passing plays should be appreciably higher than the other two under normal circumstances. In a situation where this team is playing without two of its three starting wide receivers, using Sadiq so little at the expense of the other two is baffling.
