Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel met with the South Florida media on Monday afternoon and was asked about tight end Darren Waller’s team debut which is expected to take place in Week Four on Monday Night
Football against the New York Jets.
Will the former second team All-Pro be on a snap count this week?
“Yes,” said McDaniel. “I wouldn’t go to all these lengths, have all this build up and then throw him out there for 60 [snaps] or something. I kind of have an idea, roughly, of what it is, but we’ll see if that idea plays through the practice week.
”McDaniel continued, “We’re excited to see him, but it will be some sort of situational snap count or a package type thing as opposed to just unleashing him.”
Waller has been eased back into action since joining the Dolphins after a one-year retirement that saw the 33-year-old sit out the entire 2024 season. However, Miami could use some production at the position as all Dolphins tights ends have accounted for just four receptions (Tanner Conner has three and Julian Hill has one) through three games of the 2025 NFL season.
We’ll see what Waller has left in the tank when he suits up for Miami under the bright lights of Monday Night Football this week.
