Though the Seattle Seahawks were upset by the Washington Commanders on Sunday, one constant remained even as an upset occurred.
Reigning Offensive Player of the Year Jaxon Smith-Njigba showed up in a major way for the Seahawks, posting 10 catches for 128 yards and two touchdowns in a losing effort. For Smith-Njigba, it was more of the same — and kept him on a historic path to begin the 2026 season.
According
to Seahawks PR, Smith-Njigba became the fourth player in the Super Bowl era with six touchdowns across the first three games of a season, after Calvin Johnson (2011), Marvin Harrison (1999), and Daryl Turner (1985). Narrowing that scope to include thresholds of 25+ catches and 400+ yards, Smith-Njigba is the second player after just Harrison in ’99 to hit those marks.
Smith Njigba’s consistency has him in incredible company, too. According to ESPN Insights, on Sunday he joined Jerry Rice as the only players in history to post 120 yards and a touchdown in each of his team’s first three games. With another 100-yard, touchdown day next Sunday, he will join Randy Moss as the only players to start the season with four straight games with 100 yards and a touchdown.
After dropping a game it shouldn’t have on Sunday, Seattle is a good bet to bounce back back at home against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 4. Just as likely is for Smith-Njigba to play a major part, and continue to make history for the Seahawks.
