Rolly Romero and Teofimo Lopez are officially set to fight for Rolly’s WBA welterweight title on Saturday, August 22, 2026.
The fight will take place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and be available through DAZN and Prime Video on pay-per-view. That means, of course, that DAZN Ultimate subscribers will have access.
Romero (17-2, 13 KO) hasn’t fought since he upset Ryan Garcia to win the WBA title in May 2025. The 30-year-old had negotiated to potentially fight Manny Pacquiao in January, and also went
through some back-and-forth with Devin Haney and his team, but nothing came of that.
Teofimo (22-2, 13 KO) last fought in January, getting pretty much blanked over 12 rounds by Shakur Stevenson, and losing the WBO super lightweight title in the process. He’ll go straight for another belt at 147, chasing a world title in a third weight class.
Both fighters have had their setbacks, but maintain name value and are just good at drawing attention.
I think this is also a potentially fascinating style matchup, Lopez has had his ups-and-downs and can be very emotional as a fighter and personality, but when he’s on, he’s a very good boxer. Romero lacks fundamentals or whatever, but he has real grit and can punch, and he just seems sort of indifferent emotionally in ways that Teofimo can’t even pretend he is. As much as the fighting styles, the personality styles may make this fight.
The fight will be officially announced on Thursday, July 9, in Los Angeles.
