Your Oregon Ducks had a couple different home matches this past week, Thursday against Illinois, and Sunday against Northwestern, so let’s recap how the two matches played out.
Thursday, vs the Illinois Fighting Illini: For the second match in a row, the Ducks fought hard throughout, but despite not giving up a goal during live play, conceded one via PK in the 15th minute of play. Oregon’s defense has been very solid so far this season, but the offense has definitely been a bit unlucky. The Ducks were
by far the most aggressive team on Thursday, out-shooting the Illini 20-11, but they just couldn’t find the back of the net at all, resulting in a demoralizing 1-0 loss.
Sunday, vs the Northwestern Wildcats: the Ducks continued their stellar defensive play on Sunday, and were able to keep Northwestern from taking any PKs, which have been the killer of their last two losses, but unfortunately, the offense remained dormant yet again. The Ducks were the aggressors early on, out-shooting the Wildcats 8-5 in the first half, but the tables turned in the 2nd half, with the ‘Cats out-shooting Oregon 9-5. Ultimately, neither team was able to put the ball in the net, resulting in a 0-0 draw.
The Ducks have yet to win a match since their 3-0 victory over Hawaii on August 24th, and have only scored a single goal in the 6 games since. Hopefully these ladies can break through soon, and start hitting the back of the net.
Oregon’s next game will be at Purdue on Thursday, September 25th at 4:00 PST.
As always, ‘Sco Ducks
