Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins paid tribute to their time in The Shield during and after their SummerSlam match.
Now, a former “member” of the group has responded, but it wasn’t who fans might have expected.

, which included a doctored image of himself appearing as a spirit in Shield gear between Reigns and Rollins as they performed the group’s iconic fist bump.Angle became an “honorary
member” of The Shield in 2017 after Reigns suffered a viral infection and was unable to compete at that year’s TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs event. Wrestling his first WWE match in more than a decade, Angle teamed with Rollins and Dean Ambrose to defeat Braun Strowman, The Miz, Kane, Sheamus, and Cesaro.
Ironically, that match took place in Minneapolis — the home to this year’s SummerSlam — where Reigns and Rollins seemingly closed the book on their feud and The Shield.
During Sunday’s match, Reigns and Rollins honored the Ambrose character by using his double-arm DDT. After Reigns’ victory, the two shared a fist bump with a Shield mask lying between them.
Jon Moxley, the former Dean Ambrose, hasn’t commented publicly on the SummerSlam tribute. A week before, during a match against Joe Alonzo for Wrestling Revolver, Moxley took a curb stomp from Alonzo, prompting announcers to quip, “Alonzo looking to send Moxley out on his shield.”
Rollins, Reigns, and Ambrose made their WWE main roster debut in 2012 at the Survivor Series. The trio ran roughshod over stars like John Cena, The Undertaker, and Daniel Bryan before breaking up in 2014.
After a series of reunions and breakups, The Shield’s last match together took place in April 2019, a win over Baron Corbin, Bobby Lashley and Drew McIntyre. A month later, Ambrose debuted as Jon Moxley in AEW, the name he wrestled under before coming to WWE.
