Jay Bilas is familiar to college basketball fans but to Duke fans, he’s kind of family. He’s been a part of the Brotherhood since before there was a Brotherhood, having been one of Mike Krzyzewski’s earliest
recruits at Duke. Bilas was part of the class of 1986 which was the foundational class of the modern Duke program.
He’s had an interesting career. Aside from being a basketball player and a TV analyst, Bilas has also been a coach and an attorney. And he’s apparently long had a bit of an acting bug.
Bilas has credited parts in With a Kiss, Home of the Giants and Dark Angel, according to IMBD.com.
One credit that is not listed by IMBD though is one he played as a teenager in The White Shadow.
The White Shadow played on CBS from 1978-1981 and was perhaps the only basketball series to be on network TV. We certainly can’t remember another.
Bilas played a minor role – he isn’t credited for it as far as we can tell – but so what? It must have been a really cool thing for a high school kid to have done.
If you can’t tell, he plays #3, a kid named Larson who the coach berates for smirking and having a laughable jumpshot. As we remember, Coach K might have mentioned that from time to time too.
