Time continues to tick on the Falcons’ 2025 season, as they take their play across the pond and to Berlin, Germany for a showdown against the team with the best record in the NFL up to this point, in the upstart
Indianapolis Colts.
The losing streak has reached three games for the Birds, following their defeat against the Patriots this past weekend. Now they find themselves faced with a Colts team that has been the surprise of the season, sporting an offense which is currently operating on a historic pace. For those watching on the east coast, this will be a standalone 9:30 a.m. game.
Here is the scenario the Falcons face if they beat the Indianapolis Colts in Week 10, as well as if they lose.
If the Falcons win
It may be the surprise of the weekend, as the Colts have been playing some really good football this season and have enhanced their defense with the addition of star cornerback Sauce Gardner at the trade deadline. Most headlines will likely talk about how this is Indianapolis’ second defeat in succession instead of praising the Falcons, but that doesn’t matter.
This will be the perfect springboard into some potential momentum as the next three games after this one are against the Panthers, Saints and Jets. Carolina is another surprise team with a 5-4 record, but the Jets and Saints each have won only once. If the team is going to make a move to save their season, it would have to be right now.
For the first time in their history, the Falcons will have beaten the Colts two straight times, following their win on Christmas Eve in 2023. Indy currently leads the all time series 15-3.
Atlanta’s playoff odds currently sit at a paltry 12% according to playoffstatus.com. Victory would lift that to 19%, which still isn’t good, but would be better.
If the Falcons lose
They will reach their fourth loss in a row, matching their season mark from 2024, when they collapsed following a 6-3 start. This being Raheem Morris’ second four-game losing streak in as many seasons, he would eclipse the number of such losing streaks Arthur Smith had in his three years as Falcons’ head coach.
Given how good the NFC looks to be, Atlanta would likely need to go at least 7-1 down the stretch to even have a chance at a wildcard spot, if Tampa doesn’t collapse in the division. Even then, 10 wins may not be enough to secure a postseason appearance, basically meaning that the playoffs would be a near impossible goal.
Speaking of playoff odds, they would fall from 12% down into the single digits at 9%, with the chances of winning .the division at 1%.
