Entering Sunday’s Week 9 tilt between the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs, there were many NFL observers who thought Kansas City’s high-octane offense would overwhelm Buffalo’s banged up defense,
and that the Chiefs were the better team than the Bills.
In the words of legendary sportscaster and former college football coach Lee Corso: not so fast my friend.
Quarterback Josh Allen was nearly flawless, completing 23 of 26 passes for 273 yards with three total touchdowns, running back James Cook III ran wild, tight end Dalton Kincaid was a nightmare matchup, and Greg Rousseau, Joey Bosa and Buffalo’s pass rushers made life miserable for Patrick Mahomes from the opening series.
The result? The Bills picked up their fifth straight regular-season win over the Chiefs, 28-21, and today’s edition of Buffalo Rumblinks leads off with observations and analysis from the big victory.
Final thoughts on Bills win vs. Chiefs
Never in his NFL career had Patrick Mahomes completed less than 50% of his passes. The last time he was held without a passing or rushing touchdown? Oct. 7, 2024.
But on Sunday, head coach Sean McDermott and defensive coordinator Bobby Babich called a brilliant defensive game plan, frustrating and harassing Mahomes from the get-go. Defensive ends Joey Bosa and Greg Rousseau combined to hit Mahomes nine times, and Mahomes, who was pressured on nearly 53% of his dropbacks, completed only 3-of-16 passes for 61 yards with an INT while under duress.
