Eagles Question of the Day:
Do you think Tanner McKee is going to ball out on Sunday? Head over to The Feed and weigh in with your answer and explanation!
Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles news and links …
Tanner McKee ready for
most meaningful game of his young NFL career – NBCSP “Obviously super excited for the opportunity,” McKee said. “But I feel like each week leading up I’ve been preparing like I’m going to play in case I do. So I feel like preparation has been pretty similar. It’s nice to get more reps in practice, obviously. But really excited for the opportunity.” The difference between this game and Week 18 last year, though, is that there are real stakes at play this time around. The Eagles have a chance to improve their playoff seeding Sunday if they win and if the Bears lose. (If both of those things happen, the Eagles will go from the 3-seed to the 2-seed in the NFC.) So this is going to be the most meaningful game of McKee’s young NFL career and he’s looking forward to it. “I’m definitely excited for that,” McKee said. “It’s obviously fun when something’s on the line. Anytime you get out, it’s an opportunity to go out and perform and play. That’s what we do. If there was nothing on the line or if it was the Super Bowl, you’re going to approach the game the same way. It’s an opportunity to play the game.”
Jalen Carter added to Eagles injury report ahead of Commanders game – BGN
Carter was a new addition to the injury report on Thursday, and despite having recent issues with his shoulders, this was related to a hip injury. He likely wasn’t going to play on Sunday anyway, but this may tip things further into him resting.
Commanders vs Eagles Thursday Injury Report: Another OL added to the list – Hogs Haven
Two other players who didn’t practice today, and they are both expected to miss Sunday’s game. Dan Quinn said QB Marcus Mariota was doubtful due to the quad injury he’s still dealing with. Laremy Tunsil is also a long-shot to play as he’s still dealing with the oblique injury that kept him inactive for the last two games. Brandon Coleman has filled in at LT, but he was added to today’s injury list with a knee injury. Tomorrow’s practice will be a big one for him.
Can Eagles repeat Super Bowl win with poor offensive play? – ESPN
With key starters expected to rest for the regular-season finale against the Washington Commanders (4:25 p.m. EST, CBS), the relevant data is in on the 2025 Eagles offense — and it’s not particularly pretty. The highest-salaried offense in the NFL ranks 24th in yards per game (311.5), 23rd in passing (192.3 YPG), 18th in rushing (119.3 YPG) and 19th in scoring (22.6 PPG). Philadelphia is dead last in third-and-punt rate (29.2%) and 25th in first downs/touchdowns per game (18). The last image of the starters heading into the postseason will be of a group that mustered just 16 yards in the second half against the Buffalo Bills and punted on five consecutive possessions. And yet the Eagles escaped with a win — their 11th of the season. It begs the question: Can the Eagles repeat as Super Bowl champions with the offense playing this way? The fact that it’s even a question speaks to the quality of the defense under Vic Fangio, who has orchestrated one of the top units in football for the second consecutive season. Philadelphia ranks third in opponent scoring (18.8 PPG), fourth in defensive efficiency (67.72) and seventh in QBR (50.7) despite playing a first-place schedule that featured a number of top-tier quarterbacks including Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert and Matthew Stafford.
NFL Week 18 picks: Upset and score predictions, matchup breakdowns for every game – NFL.com
Why Brooke picked the Eagles: Two weeks ago, Philly defeated Washington by 11 points in a game Marcus Mariota started but couldn’t finish. This time around, Mariota (hand/quad) is unlikely to take the field at all, while the Eagles reportedly are expected to rest Jalen Hurts and most starters. So gear up for this Tanner McKee vs. Josh Johnson thriller? OK, that might be a stretch. My trust in this one rests on one person: Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. His unit has hit its stride in the second half of the season, ranking first in the NFL with 14.5 points per game allowed since Week 10. It also has at least one takeaway in eight straight games. I get that many of this unit’s stars won’t be on the field, but Fangio knows how to get the most out of the guys who are available. I don’t see that D completely folding against an already-struggling Commanders offense trotting out a 39-year-old third-string QB.
Marcus Epps’ NFL career was in jeopardy last summer. He believes his return home to the Eagles was meant to be. – Inquirer
Enthusiasm emanates from Epps on every play. Epps wore his heart on his jersey sleeve in last Sunday’s win over the Buffalo Bills, especially on a critical goal-line stand late in the third quarter. After Epps stuffed James Cook for a loss of a yard on third down and Zack Baun prevented Josh Allen from scrambling into the end zone on fourth, the 29-year-old Epps screamed and flexed on his way to the sideline. In moments like those, Reed Blankenship says he’s scared to give his fellow safety a high-five. “He’ll try to slap me as hard as he can,” Blankenship explained. “I’m like, I don’t know if I want to do that. He’s just one of those dudes that you can tell that loves the game and loves the way it’s supposed to be played.”

We’ve Come Full Circle with Ross Tucker Calling a Tanner McKee Game to End the Eagles’ Regular Season – Crossing Broad
This is a funny way to bookend the Eagles’ preseason and regular season. It starts with Ross Tucker doing color commentary for a Tanner McKee game and ends with Ross Tucker doing color commentary for a Tanner McKee game. He knows all of the dudes who are going to be out there on Sunday. Will Shipley, Darius Cooper, and Kylen Granson. Could be a big Smael Mondon Jr. game! I’ve got Kelee Ringo picking off Josh Johnson to seal it.
Why it will take more than just a new defensive coordinator to fix the Cowboys defense – Blogging The Boys
When you fire your defensive coordinator (or let him walk, or let him go on a sabbatical, or whatever the Cowboys decide to do with Matt Eberflus), it’s often because the entire organization failed, and not just the guy nominally responsible for the defense. It follows that when you’re looking to fix that defense, you’re going to have to look at more than just the coaching. Because if you don’t, you’ll quickly find yourself back in the position you wanted to get out of in the first place. While saying goodbye to Eberflus is the right decision, the danger is that it provides the Cowboys with a waaaay too convenient excuse for everything that went sideways with the defense this season, and thus provides carte blanche for the Jones family and the front office to continue doing business as usual.
NY Giants head-coaching search: Antonio Pierce, Vance Joseph on initial list – Big Blue View
Expected to be interviewed. Former head coaches: Mike McCarthy, Antonio Pierce, Vance Joseph, Mike Kafka. We have not talked much about Pierce. He went 4-13 with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2024, a season that perhaps does not look as damning the way the 2-14 Raiders have played under Pete Carroll. He is a culture-setter with obvious Giants ties, so that makes sense. Joseph went 11-21 as head coach of the Denver Broncos in 2017 and 2018. He is, though, a fantastic defensive coach many believe deserving of a second opportunity to be a head coach. If Joseph could bring highly-regarded Davis Webb, quarterbacks coach in Denver, as his offensive coordinator that might be an attractive pairing. Kafka deserves an interview after his work since taking over for Brian Daboll. McCarthy we have discussed.
7 NFL head coaches who could be fired on Black Monday – SB Nation
Jonathan Gannon — Arizona Cardinals. Things just aren’t clicking in Arizona … again. The big knock against Jonathan Gannon remaining as head coach is the unbelievable lack of improvement on the defensive side of the ball, which should have been the one area he could affect change with the Cardinals. This is a team that’s 29th in points allowed, 24th against the pass, and 25th against the run. Despite this the quarterback position was what got blamed for the woes this year. It’s been three years of missed playoffs, a lack of improvement, and unclear direction. With a potential new quarterback on the horizon it’s time to make another switch at coach and keep swinging to find the right guy.
