The Green Bay Packers announced on Friday that they have activated defensive end Brenton Cox Jr. from the injured reserve. Cox was in Week 3 of his 21-day practice window, so the team needed to bring him up to the 53-man roster soon or he would have reverted to injured reserve for the remainder of the season.
Cox only played eight snaps for the Packers this year before going on the injured reserve with a groin injury, but he played 160 snaps over seven games in 2024, leading to four sacks. Green Bay
is thin in the pass-rushing department, as Micah Parsons recently had his season end and Lukas Van Ness continues to deal with a nagging foot injury.
Beyond the Cox news, the Packers also adjusted defensive end Collin Oliver’s status for this week. Oliver had his practice window from the physically unable to perform list open at the same time as Cox. He was listed as questionable on Thursday, but has been downgraded to out. In all likelihood, Oliver will end the 2025 season on the injured reserve.
As of now, Green Bay hasn’t called up any practice squadders for tomorrow’s game against the Chicago Bears. The corresponding roster move for Cox to be added to the 53-man roster is expected to be running back MarShawn Lloyd going on the injured reserve.
