The popular basketball video game series NBA 2K released the ratings for the top 100 players, and three Spurs made the cut, including Victor Wembanyama. The big man has the ninth-highest rating on the game, at a 94.
The game is not the best at capturing the reality of the league, but it does a good job of showing the perception of players from the fans’ perspective. With that in mind, here’s a look at all other Silver and Black-related tidbits we know.
Wemby is climbing the ranks and joining elite company
Wembanyama had the 18th-best rating when the previous
edition launched, at 91. He was considered one of the best players in the league by 2K, but not quite in the upper echelons of superstardom. Not anymore. Wemby is actually tied with LeBron James, Jayson Tatum and Stephen Curry for the sixth-highest ranking despite officially ranking ninth, according to 2K.
The only players ahead of him are, in order, Nikola Jokic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Luka Doncic and Anthony Edwards. We are talking MVP-caliber players as his peers. Again, it can be argued that Wemby has not done enough to be in that company, but his rating shows that he’s expected to make another leap after a health scare cut his sophomore season short.
The Spurs only have three players in the top 100
While 2K has Wemby as one of its best players, the Spurs as a whole don’t have many standouts in the game. The next highest-ranked San Antonio player is De’Aaron Fox, at 48th, with an 85 rating. Fox was tied for the 27th-best ranking in the last edition of the game, with an 88 rating. His reputation took a hit, and he wasn’t the only one. Devin Vassell was in the top 100 in NBA2K 25 but fell out of it this season.
Fortunately, reigning Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle took Vassell’s place, giving the Spurs a third player in the top 100. The young guard has an 82 rating and is the 66th highest-ranked player. For context, some of the others with the same rating include Cooper Flagg, Brandon Miller and Josh Giddey. Castle had a 73 overall rating at launch in the previous edition of the series, so the major jump in rating shows how impressive his performance as a rookie really was.
Dylan Harper is the second-highest rated rookie
As mentioned, Cooper Flagg has an 82 rating, good enough to crack the top 100 and lead all rookies. Dylan Harper is not far behind, as the Spurs’ rookie has a 78 rating, good for second in his class, one point ahead of his former teammates Ace Bailey, who completes the podium despite being drafted fifth overall. V.J. Edgecombe ranks fourth with a 76 rating, followed by Kon Knueppel and Tre Johnson at 75.
Carter Bryant is not in the top 10, which is not surprising, since everyone in that list was drafted ahead of him.
Some Spurs have elite skills
The Spurs might not have a lot of players in the top 100 but two of the ones that made it have some impressive skills. De’Aaron Fox is the fastest player in the entire game. His 97 rating in speed with the ball is two points higher than the Grizzlies’ Ja Morant’s, the Raptors’ Jamal Shead’s, and the Jazz’s Isaiah Collier’s.
Victor Wembanyama, meanwhile, has the best shot-blocking rating in the game with a 99, which should not be a surprise. Chet Holgrem is right behind him at 97. Notably missing from the top 10 is Rudy Gobert, while Jay Huff, likely the Pacers’ starting center on opening night, cracks the list.
Wemby also ranks in the top 10 in post control. He’s not a traditional back-to-the-basket center, ranking low in points per possession and really high in turnover rate in the post last season, according to Synergy Sports, but the game designers are likely projecting improvement on the block.
We don’t know how the Spurs will stack up against other teams, but the Fox-Wemby pairing should be a fun one to use once the game drops.
What do you think about where the Spurs’ players ranked? Who do you think will see their rating go up the most when they are updated once the season is underway? Were Jeremy Sochan and Harrison Barnes snubbed by not making the top 10 in perimeter defense and three-point shooting, respectively? Let us know in the comments.
