Triple-A: Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (MIA) 9, Norfolk Tides 6
It was a back-and-forth contest between the Tides and the Shrimp, but it all fell apart for the Tides in the eighth and ninth innings when the Shrimp scored five runs to take the lead and the game.
Thaddeus Ward started for the Tides and did not have an easy go of it. He allowed three baserunners in the first two innings before finally giving up two runs in the third and one in the fourth. In the fourth, he allowed four of the first five batters to reach and threw a run-scoring wild pitch before being
pulled from the game.
Down 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth, the Tides came all the way back. Daniel Johnson reached on an error and Jud Fabian walked. Livan Soto bunted back to the pitcher and ended up reaching on an infield single. With the bases loaded, Jordyn Adams singled in a run. Reed Trimble walked to drive in the second run, and Adley Rutschman tied the game with a sac fly.
The Tides took the lead in the fifth inning on an single by Livan Soto. Fabian, who had walked again, scored on the play.
Keagan Gillies followed Ward on the mound and pitched 1.2 hitless innings, but Colin Selby could not hold the lead. He allowed two hits in the inning with the run scoring on a groundout.
As quick as the game was tied, Rutschman untied it. The rehabbing catcher hit a go-ahead home run for his second RBI of the night. It was a nice night at the plate for Rutschman, who also walked three times.
Houston Roth came on in the eighth inning, and he did not have a good day. He walked a batter and allowed a two-run homer to put the Jumbo Shrimp ahead by a run. He got himself into even more trouble in the ninth with a walk and back-to-back doubles. He left the game with two runs scored and two runners on base. Anthony Nunes allowed one more run to score before getting out of the inning.
Jordyn Adams homered in the bottom of the ninth, but it was too little, too late for a comeback. Tides lose, 8-6.
