Seattle Seahawks superstar wide receiver and Super Bowl champion Jaxon Smith-Njigba was the first Seahawks player to win Offensive Player of the Year since Shaun Alexander’s legendary 2005 season…
…Or so we thought.
JSN shared on his Instagram Stories (which we’ve screenshotted since it will disappear soon) the official NFL Honors trophy he received. Name spelled correctly? Check. Official Associated Press logo? Check. Season in which the award was won is accurate? Check. Now all that’s left is to make
sure this trophy says he’s the Offensive Player of the Year…
That’s right. With all due respect to Myles Garrett, Smith-Njigba is such a dominant force of a football player that he’s actually the Defensive Player of the Year. I now wonder if Myles’ award says he’s the Offensive Player of the Year in one hell of a mix-up.
It’s one thing when Druski butchers JSN’s full name in a failed attempt at humor, but this is the NFL sending the literal wrong award his way. How does no one notice this flub?
Anyway, clearly the only way to rectify this is for Smith-Njigba to get some reps at cornerback next season so he can be eligible to win DPOY for real.
