The Philadelphia Eagles officially announced a bunch of roster moves ahead of Sunday evening’s 6:00 PM deadline in order to cut down to the regular season 53-player limit.
Here’s an overview of all the action.

The following players were not “waived” because they’re vested veterans (at least four accrued seasons) and are now free to sign with any team.

INJURED RESERVE/DESIGNATED FOR RETURN
In the past, NFL teams had to carry players through to their 53-man roster to then place them on injured reserve while keeping them eligible to return in the same season. Nowadays, teams can utilize up to two designations where they place a player on IR as part of getting down to 53 players and still be able to activate them after the player misses four games. The Eagles used this maneuver with both Ainias Smith and Albert Okwuegbunam Jr. in 2024 and Myles Hinton in 2025. This year, the Eagles are using up both of their two spots.

QUICK ANALYSIS
- Roster bubble players who were waived: DT Uar Bernard, EDGE Joshua Weru, LB Chance Campbell, LB Deontae Lawson, RB Carson Steele, OT Cameron Williams, DB Kapena Gushiken, DT Gabe Hall.
- A little surprising to see the Eagles didn’t keep either of their two International Pathway Program players. Then again, I don’t think other teams are dying to cut one of their own players to make room for a guy who likely won’t be ready to play in 2026 and maybe not even 2027? That being said, Weru looks like he might be able to at least play on special teams this season.
- With the Eagles cutting Wisniewski, Bernard, and KJN, only five of their eight picks from the 2026 NFL Draft will enter this season on the roster.
- Also a little surprising to see the Eagles only go with four off-ball linebackers after we’ve all been talking about how deep they are there. Vic Fangio told reporters to put Chance Campbell on the roster. Maybe they’ll bring him back since he’s a vested vet. Or maybe they feel like he’s a safe bet to stay on the practice squad.
- Britain Covey is a top contender to be temporarily elevated to the roster early in the season to be the Eagles’ punt returner.
- Dameon Pierce could return on practice squad to be RB4 behind Saquon Barkley, Tank Bigsby, and Will Shipley.
- Kapena Gushiken was the Eagles’ top UDFA signing in terms of money but he didn’t do enough to earn a roster spot.
