To some, 99 is just a number. To others, it identifies one of the most well-known Major League Baseball players in 2026.
Aaron Judge’s jersey, sporting No. 99, is the MLB’s second-most popular jersey this year, only behind Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Since Opening Day back in late March, Judge’s jersey sales have surpassed every other player in the American League, based on sales of Nike jerseys from the Fanatics network of sites, including MLBShop.com.
They even surpassed former Yankee
and now crosstown rival Juan Soto, whose jersey was the 10th top-selling this year.
Judge has worn No. 99 since he was assigned the number in spring training when he first joined the team in 2016. The only other players in franchise history to share Judge’s number were 2009 relief pitcher Brian Bruney, and outfielder Charlie Keller, otherwise known as “King Kong,” who became the first MLB player to wear the number during his final season in 1952.
With Judge’s availability for the upcoming Wild Card Series in question, sales are sure to spike to support the Yankees captain. Postseason baseball will begin next week, and if you find yourself wandering around the Bronx or stopping by Billy’s Sports Bar, there’s no doubt you’ll find folks in No. 99 throughout a sea of pinstripes.
