This week, we asked Jacksonville Jaguars fans if they’re comfortable with Nick Mullens as the backup quarterback.
Most respondents said no.
And wouldn’t you know it — before we could even publish the survey results, Jacksonville went ahead and made a move at the position. Former Texas Longhorns and Miami Dolphins passer Quinn Ewers is now a Jaguar.
I have two follow-up questions. First… are you comfortable with Ewers as the backup quarterback? I’m only half joking. It’s nice to know that Jacksonville
was looking around the league for different options, but I’m not sure if Ewers is actually much of an upgrade over Mullens at all. As the younger player by eight years, I suppose he offers more long-term potential, but I can’t say Ewers would make me feel any better if Trevor Lawrence were injured.
And secondly, what the heck should we do with this newfound power? If next week’s survey asks, “Are you confident in the progress of the Stadium of the Future?” will construction suddenly quicken?
According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the Jaguars have +3000 odds to win Super Bowl LXI.
