It was a heck of an afternoon for the Michigan Wolverines against Central Michigan, winning 63-3. Michigan’s offense had itself a day, including quarterback Bryce Underwood.
Underwood was 16-of-25 for 235 yards with one passing touchdown, one interception, as well as 114 rushing yards and two rushing scores.
Underwood connected on short, intermediate, and deep throws and he did so while throwing in the pocket and on the run. Underwood’s running abilities were equally impressive as his passing prowess.
Not only is Underwood fast, he’s shifty, and he has power to his running at 6-foot-4 and 230 pounds.
After the win, interim Michigan head coach Biff Poggi assessed Underwood’s performance by comparing him to a superhero known for defending Gotham City.
“He might be Batman,” Poggi said. “We need to do a DNA test on him because he could be Batman.”
At the post-game press conference, Poggi had another memorable quote about Underwood.
“I have a Labrador retriever who could coach that guy,” Poggi said. “He’s unbelievable.”
Even Central Michigan head coach Matt Drinkall had to give Underwood props for his performance, saying he is living up to the hype.
“Confirmed…You can tell he’s as smart as he is talented, and he’s incredibly talented,” Drinkall said. “He did a great job.”
Much is expected of Underwood; that’s what comes with being the No. 1 overall recruit in the 2025 class. And through three games, he’s living up to expectations at just 18 years of age.
“Boy, he’s gifted. Y’all saw that,” Poggi said. “He is so gifted. I’m glad we got him.”
Underwood will look to keep performing like a superhero next week on the road against an improved Nebraska team that’s now 3-0.
