NXT emanates from the Performance Center in Orlando once again tonight in the first of two weeks of Revenge. On the docket for the evening are both of NXT’s top champions defending their gold for the first time, a former champion in concert, plus the tournament to determine a new men’s Speed Champion continues. Be sure to tune into the action on the CW starting at 8 PM ET, and follow along with all the action right here on Cageside!
Tony D’s First Title Defense
His new side plates had barely settled in the NXT Championship when
Tony D was thrust into an 8-man tag team match on NXT last week. DarkState, looking to show the locker room, and also prove to themselves that they are still a cohesive unit at the top of the NXT food chain, attacked Tony, Ricky Saints, Ethan Page, and Joe Hendry in the ring, and GM Robert Stone wasted no time pitting the four Stand & Deliver main eventers against the floundering faction. Unsurprisingly, the makeshift team would end up picking up the win, but what was most noteworthy was how it happened.
When the new champion seemed to have the match won, Ethan tagged himself in, pump-kicked D’Angelo out of the way and scored the pinfall for himself. Tony would get the last laugh, getting back into the ring and hitting Page with a brutal chokeslam, but on this night, it was All Ego that had really won. Later, it was announced that Ethan would get the first shot at ending Tony’s NXT Title reign before it ever has a chance to get going and that match will happen this week on NXT Revenge.
Will Ethan Page become a two-time NXT Champion and end Tony’s title reign after just 10 days? Or will D’Angelo find a way to retain and avoid having one of the shortest NXT Championship reigns of all time? Plus, will Ricky “The Absolute” Saints and Joe Hendry make their respective presences known during the match?
Joe Hendry In-Concert
Speaking of the viral superstar and former NXT Champion, it was announced on last week’s show that Joe Hendry would be holding a concert in the ring this week, and GM Stone mentioned that the Scotsman would be discussing his future. What is next for Hendry? Is he looking at becoming a two-time NXT Champion or, with WrestleMania season upon us, does he have his sights set on competing on Monday or Friday nights in the near future?
NXT Becomes Vice City
Lola Vice prevailed in the opening bout at Stand & Deliver to dethrone Jacy Jayne and win her first singles title in NXT. Just three days later, as she was celebrating her win and charting her course for what’s next, it was Jacy and her Fatal Influence comrades that were the first to greet her. After hearing from GM Stone that Jacy would be her first challenger, Lola narrowly survived a three-on-one attack, fighting off both Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid before nearly knocking her #1 contender’s head off her shoulders with a backfist.
Now they will fight for the top prize in the NXT Women’s division on the first night of Revenge in Lola’s first title defense. Jacy is already in impressive company as a two-time NXT Champion, joining the likes of Shayna Baszler, Roxanne Perez, and Charlotte Flair. Will she become the first three-time champ in NXT history and prove the doubters wrong once and for all? Or Lola prove that her Stand & Deliver victory was anything but a fluke and ensure that Orlando remains Vice City as we head into the summer?
