Columbus Clippers (10-9) – AAA
IOW 3 – COL 5
The Columbus Clippers took down the ICubs Friday night at Huntington Park. Rorik Maltrud gave the Clippers 6.0 innings work, allowing 4 hits, 1 walk, and striking out 3. Of the 3 runs scored, only 1 was earned. Two throwing errors by Cooper Ingle in the 2nd and by Milan Tolentino in the 3rd accounted for the unearned runs. Jake Miller pitched the 7th inning, only walking 1 and striking out 1. Andrew Walters earned his first win of the season. He struck out all three batters
faced on 15 pitches. Codi Heuer earned a save, giving up a hit in his inning of work.
Milan Tolentino, despite the error, had himself a night, going 2-for-3 with 2RBI, 2R, 1BB, and a HR.
Dom Nuñez went 2-for-4 with 2RBI, 1R, and a HR.
Akron RubberDucks (8-5) – AA
BNG 4 – AKR 1
The RubberDucks fell to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies Friday night. Starting pitcher Caden Favors fell to 1-1 pitching 5.1 innings. He was scoreless going into the 6th inning, having only allowed 3 base runners – all via walks. In the top of the 6th, things fell off the rails. A first pitch bunt made for a quick first out, but the subsequent double and home run put the RubberDucks down by two and forced a pitching change. Hunter Stanley got out of the 6th, but gave up 3 hits and 2 walks before recording an out in the top of the 7th. Reid Johnston and Jack Carey pitched scoreless outings with Johnston allowing 3 walks and striking out 3. Carey struck out 1 batter.
Akron’s offense was rather lackluster. The RubberDucks only recorded 4 hits and 6 walks on the evening. Wuilfredo Antunez recorded the sole RBI with a two-out triple in the bottom of the 6th.
Lake County Captains (6-7) – High A
Game 1: FW 1 – LC 0
Game 1 for the Caps was a battle of pitching. RHP Braylon Doughty pitched 4.0 innings, allowing 3 hits, 2 walks, and striking out 3. LHP Donovan Zsak pitched the 5th inning, walking 2 batters. Izaak Martinez fell to 1-1 on the season with the loss. He allowed the sole run of Game 1 in the top of the sixth inning. Martinez walked the first batter and gave up a single to the second. A sac bunt and pop out put runners on 2nd and 3rd. A wild pitch scored the runner from third, sealing the loss for the Captains.
The Caps only had three baserunners for the entire game; a single in the bottom of the 4th for Dean Curley, a walk for Jace LaViolette in the bottom of the 7th, and a single for Nolan Schubart also in the bottom of the 7th.
Game 2: FW 3 – LC 4
The Captains split the doubleheader in the April 15th make up game. Jogly García earned his first win of the season. He went 5.0IP, 1H, 1R/ER, 3BB, with 3Ks. Luis Flores got 2 innings of work in, allowing 5H, 2R/ER, striking out 2 batters.
The team put up 4 runs on 7 hits and 4 walks. In the bottom of the 1st inning, Jaison Chourio hit a line drive single to center then stole 2nd base. Aaron Walton drew a walk to put two runners on, but Nolan Schubart lined into a double play. In the bottom of the 3rd Maick Collado hit a lead off single. Jaison Chourio singled, with one out, to put runners on 1st and 2nd. Aaron Walton drew a walk, loading the bases. With two outs, Bennett Thompson drew a walk to put the first run for the Caps on the board. Schubart made up for his GIDP in the bottom of the fifth, though. Jaison Chourio hit a one-out single followed by Aaron Walton’s double to left that put two runners in scoring position. Nolan Schubart hit a single that fell perfectly between the defenders, scoring two.
The final runs of the evening for Lake County came in the bottom of the sixth. Esteban González hit a lead off double and Luke Hill reached on a walk. A double steal moved both runners up with González scoring on a sac fly.
Hill City Howlers (8-5) – Single A
HC 6 – WIL 7
The Howlers fell to the Wilson Warbirds. Jacob Zibin pitched 3.0 innings, giving up 4H, 4R/ER, 2BB, and striking out 4. Righty Luke Fernandez threw 2.1IP, walking 5 batters and allowing 2R/ER with only 1 hit. Eudry Alcantara tightened things up for the pitching staff. In 1.2 innings of work he walked 1 batter and struck out 4. Angel Perez would ultimately take the loss, allowing a solo homer in his sole inning of work.
The Howlers offense kept things close with a parade of homers. Robert Arias worked a 2-2 count on a 7 pitch at bat before launching his first home run of the season to lead off the game.
In the top of the 4th, a one-out walk from Anthony Martinez and two-out home run from Jhorvic Abreus brought the Howlers within 1 run of the Warbirds.
In the top of the 7th a two-out single put a runner on for Jonathan Martinez to hit his first home run of the season too.
The Howlers finally tied it up in the top of the 8th. Anthony Martinez hit a lead off single to right field.
The Warbirds were able to keep it tied to end the 9th and ultimately walk it off on a homer of their own.
