After an extremely strong start to the 2025/26 campaign, Bayern Munich are eager to extend Dayot Upamecano’s contract. However, talks between the player and the club have reached an impasse as the Frenchman
and his agent are, at this point, unwilling to budge from their contract demands.
The dead end has encouraged interest from defending Premier League champions, Liverpool. There has also been a long standing interest from Real Madrid. However, despite Europe’s elite circling, Bayern remain confident they can lock the 26-year-old down to another long-term contract (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Regarding the contract talks with Upamecano, Bayern want to take things easy for now and not put too much pressure on the club. Based on their experience in recent negotiations with other key players, they are confident enough that ultimately an agreement will be reached. The appreciation is there from both sides – Bayern have no doubts over Upamecano’s abilities, and the player knows what he has at FC Bayern. The winter break could be the ideal time for things to get really concrete
Last season Bayern were able to secure the key contract extensions of Joshua Kimmich, Alphonso Davies and Jamal Musiala. Like Kimmich, Davies and Musiala, Upamecano is vitally important to Kompany’s style of play; it is very likely that Bayern will push hard to reach an agreement with Upamecano.
Bayern Munich is starting to really hit the rough-and-tumble portion of its first half schedule and Der Klassiker is at the forefront of it all.
Sure, Bayern Munich passed its test against Eintracht Frankfurt before the last international break, but Bundesliga matches against Bayer Leverkusen and SC Freiburg, Champions League games vs. Club Brugge, Paris Saint-Germain, and Arsenal, plus a DFB-Pokal tilt vs. FC Köln all are on tap before the end of November.
In a nutshell, buckle up.
