Whether or not the Los Angeles Rams could trade up for running back Jeremiyah Love rests entirely in the hands of a division rival. If the Cardinals want Love, then he’s going to be drafted by Arizona at three. And if another team wants to trade up to three for Love, a spot that the Cardinals would reportedly love to get out of, then Arizona can make sure he doesn’t go to L.A..
Forecasting markets had a surge for Love being the pick by the Cardinals as of Thursday morning with the first round less
than six hours away.
Will Love make the Cardinals better?
Many Rams fans would like to see Les Snead trade up for either Love or Arizona State receiver Jordyn Tyson. Those appear to be the two prospects desired by most fans if the Rams trade up, but maybe receiver Carnell Tate or linebacker Sonny Stylez or safety Caleb Downs would be just as appealing to others.
However, Love is the name heard the most often. If the Rams trade up, it seems that the most popular prospect to do that for is Love, a running back considered by some to be the best football player in the entire class.
Even though the Rams have Kyren Williams and Blake Corum, many fans believe that Love’s ceiling and skillset is so far above those two that he could give Matthew Stafford the best run game support that he’s ever had. Possibly something important as he approaches 40.
But if Love is that good, are fans going to be worried if he goes to the Arizona Cardinals?
Or is that just a wasted pick for one of the worst teams in the NFL?
The Cardinals new head coach is Mike LaFleur, formerly the offensive coordinator of the L.A. Rams, and they still have a lot of needs on offense. Jacoby Brissett is reportedly holding out for a better contract and he’s only Jacoby Brissett. The Cardinals don’t have a quarterback really.
They need more help on the offensive line. And Marvin Harrison Jr. hasn’t panned out quite as expected as a receiver yet.
If the Cardinals replace Tyler Allgeier with Love, does that feel like “the one that got away” if you’re the Rams on Thursday night? Or are you actually kind of happy that the Cardinals used a top-3 pick on a running back?
Then again, this could all be a ploy by Arizona to trade down. Maybe even with the Rams.
The Cardinals probably don’t want Jeremiyah Love.
But if they can make other teams think they do, then maybe they’ll get the trade they’re looking for. That could still keep him out of the Rams’ hands, unless they’re feeling they have to him instead. If the Cardinals want the Rams to have Jeremiyah Love though, is that a good sign?
