In a sport and organization that often gets a lot of decisions wrong, this latest decision is a good one.
Per Ross Dellenger, there will be just one college football transfer portal going forward.
That period will begin on January 2.
Finally, this seems like a good decision. For as much as the NCAA gets wrong, this is good for all parties. Having a single transfer portal window after all the bowl games end is going to be great for controlling the portal.
Back in January at the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) convention in Charlotte, this single window first received its big push in public. Coaches wanted to eliminate the spring transfer portal window and requested a singular 10-day window in January after bowl games. Graduate transfers will be able to leave for another school at any time.
“These recommendations are intended to allow a student-athlete and coaches more opportunity to focus on their season while preserving the opportunities for students who choose to transfer to still do so for a traditional spring semester,” AFCA executive director Craig Bohl said.
The fact that the roster will be set essentially by Spring Practice is good for coaching staffs and media members. For once, the NCAA got this right.
