On Friday night, the Detroit Lions’ social media dropped a not-so-subtle hint about their next uniform combination. On Twitter, the Lions not only tweeted out a photo of a black Lions logo with a bright blue outline, but they also changed their Twitter logo to the same image.
Detroit has done this several times in the past, and it means only one thing: the black uniforms are coming out this upcoming week.
If you’re unfamiliar, the black Lions uniforms—dropped in 2024 and officially called Motor City
Muscle—feature a black jersey, black pants, and a popping blue helmet with the black Lions logo. You can see it used in action below.
Assuming all the hint dropping is true, the Lions will wear these for their home Week 7 game against the Green Bay Packers next week.
The following week, the Lions host the Minnesota Vikings, and they’ve already announced that they will be wearing their new Rivalry Uniforms for that Week 8 divisional matchup. This offseason, the NFL announced and debuted the Rivalry design for all of the NFC North and AFC South teams. The Lions’ uniforms feature an all-grey look with black and blue stripes on the shoulder pads designed to mimic the eyes of a Lion. In Detroit’s debut photoshoot of the Rivalry uniforms, the jerseys and pants were paired with the same blue helmet from the Motor City Muscle uniforms.
So we’ve got a couple of weeks of non-traditional Lions uniforms for what will be a pivotal two-game stretch of divisional games out of Detroit’s Week 6 bye.
