The injury bug is already getting the better of the 2026-27 Louisville men’s basketball team, and the season hasn’t even officially started.
Last week, U of L announced that 7’5 center Gabe Dynes would miss four months while recovering from shoulder surgery. Monday night, just hours before the Cardinals’ season-opener against Chattanooga, U of L has announced that guard De’Shayne Montgomery will be sidelined for 4-6 weeks because of a foot injury.
Montgomery, a Dayton transfer, led Louisville in scoring
in its summer exhibition game in The Bahamas. He came off the bench to score 10 points in the team’s win at Kansas, a performance that had more than a few Cardinal fans projecting Montgomery to be the team’s most productive reserve.
The timing here is not ideal. Montgomery seems certain to miss Louisville’s entire run at the Players Era Festival during Thanksgiving Week, and will likely miss the team’s non-conference showdowns against Texas, Michigan and Kentucky.
Here’s hoping he’s back to 100 percent as soon as humanly possible, because this team needs him … and it will really need him if Seth Trimble and L.J. Wells lose their eligibility at some point over the next month.
