Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle Derrick Harmon suffered a sprained MCL against the Carolina Panthers in the preseason finale. Many feared that the injury was far worse, as Harmon was emotional when being carted off. The rookie from Oregon opened up about the injury on Saturday.
“It’s frustrating,” Harmon said via Nick Farabaugh of PennLive. “It’s just preseason, and I was really excited for the regular season and compete at a high level. It sucks, but it’s part of the game we play. I have to
attack this rehab.”
Harmon also said he thought the injury was much worse at first, which would explain why he looked emotional when being carted off the field.
“I thought it was serious, but it wasn’t that serious. But still something I have to be in the training room and get rehab going.”
Gerry Dulac reports that the Steelers don’t plan to put Harmon on IR, and that they expect him to only miss the season opener against the New York Jets, meaning he’ll be back for the home opener against the Seattle Seahawks.
