Dave Roberts failed to get even a single vote for the 2025 National League Manager of the Year, and for the second straight season, Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy has been named the recipient of the award. Cincinnati Reds manager Terry Francona finished second in voting after coming out of a brief retirement, and Philadelphia Phillies manager Rob Thomson finished third in voting.
Both Murphy and Cleveland Guardians manager Stephen Vogt become the first repeat winners of the award overall since
Rays manager Kevin Cash in 2020-21. Murphy is the first National League manager to repeat since longtime former Braves manager Bobby Cox in 2004-05.
2025 National League Manager of the Year voting
Murphy’s Brewers got out to a dreadful start to the season, getting swept by the New York Yankees and starting the season 0-4. Milwaukee eventually turned their season around in a historic fashion, finishing the season with the best record in baseball at 97-65, the most wins they’ve sported in a single season in franchise history. The Brewers took care of the Chicago Cubs in five games in the NLDS before getting overmatched by the Dodgers in the NLCS.
Roberts finishes outside the top seven in voting for the first time in his Dodgers managerial career, not having won the award since his first season as Dodgers manager in 2016. His Dodgers in 2025 finished with a 93-69 record in the regular season, the lowest win totals his team had since the 2018 season, but still good enough to win the NL West for the 12th time in the last 13 seasons. It was the first season in the new expanded playoff format where the Dodgers had to play in a Wild Card series, and Roberts ultimately guided the team to its second straight championship, becoming the first team to repeat in 25 years.
