Welcome to the Morning Commute. Today… come on. You know what today’s about.
Mizzou’s All-American running back Ahmad Hardy is back at practice. Which means we’re close to see him returning to action. Which means Mizzou’s offense is about to go… I don’t know. Boom?
We’ll obviously keep an eye on this moving forward. Given Eli Drinkwitz’s “two weeks of full practice” mandate, we might be looking the Texas home game as his official return to play. But who knows? Maybe he’s
already been practicing and we could see him on Saturday?
Yesterday at Rock M and Rock M+
- In which Karen’s photos of the week are up and they are glorious:
Fall Ball wrapped up this weekend with a game against Lindenwood on Friday, games against teams I didn’t know existed in UA Rich Mountain and Three Rivers Community College on Saturday, and a Big 10 matchup against Iowa in the finale. Margo was on hand for the UARM game, along with softball contributor Dylan Heinrich. Our notebook will be out mid-week, so be on the lookout. I do not know what the results of this game were at publication.
Those softball photos are magnificent. Great work, Margo.
- In which Jaden highlights his risers and fallers in the Mizzou stock trading game:
While just being a one-year starter, [Simmons has] risen up into NFL draft first-round conversations. His ability to layer the ball all over the field is outright impressive and fun to watch. Even in a bad loss, like against Mississippi, when the Rebels took away Cayden Lee, he turned to his other receivers, including Donovan Olugbode (127 yards), Jude James (57 yards), and Naeshaun Montgomery (45 yards and a dropped touchdown).
Lots of familiar names here.
- In which Mizzou opens as a nearly 10-point favorite over Arkansas:
In the first “half” of Mizzou’s season, we got to see a lot of the good and enough of the bad to flummox us a bit. Is Mizzou a really good team that has had some slip ups on the road? Or are they a paper tiger that has benefitted from a home-heavy schedule? We’ll learn a lot over the next six weeks, when the Tigers play three of the country’s Top 15 teams and head to Fayetteville for a rivalry game. Week eight did a lot of the separation work when it came to the wheat and the chaff. We’ll learn soon enough where the Tigers land.
Time to get a road win, Eli.
- In which Mizzou Volleyball keeps on rolling:
After seeing their three-match sweep streak snapped in a tightly contested opening frame, the Tigers (13-8) overall and (6-3) in conference play adjusted at the net to overpower the Bulldogs over the final three sets. Missouri knocked out a total of 12 blocks and hit .254 while holding Georgia to a .188 hitting efficiency.
Dawn Sullivan always has this team cooking at the best time!
- Over at Rock M+, Watkins has a great Verdict on Jaylen Carey (even if he didn’t play against Kansas State), and we’re all debating how many non-con wins Mizzou needs to snatch of its name opponents.
