Good morning. Here’s hoping you’re getting ready to tuck into a fantastic feast with people you love, or at least can put up with long enough to finish your pumpkin pie.
I find that all of us have a lot
to be thankful for if we really think about it. Which we should, because gratitude is really the virtue that produces the surest, quickest path to joy. And we as Georgia Bulldog football fans have more to be thankful for this time of year than most. In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I wanted to take a moment to list just a few of the things for which I’m thankful this holiday season:
I’m thankful that Lane Kiffin’s employment decisions don’t really affect me on a direct, personal level.
I’m thankful that Nate Frazier, Chauncey Bowens, Cash Jones, Dwight Phillips, Josh McCray, and Bo Walker understand that it’s better to be one of the guys than to be the guy.
I’m thankful that my college football team has won a conference title in the past 27 years.
I’m thankful for CJ Allen and the fact that he chases footballs like a Labrador retriever chases tennis balls.
I’m thankful for those first notes from the Battle Hymn soloist at the first home game of the season.
I’m thankful for Gunner Stockton sticking around.
I’m thankful for the person who brings the Chick-Fil-A nugget tray to the tailgate. Not all heroes wear capes.
I’m thankful for Baba O’Riley.
I’m thankful for wacky 3-5 ACC matchups when I’m not quite ready to go to bed and Tuesday night MACtion because why not? College football in all its forms remains the greatest sport and potentially the most potent human drama around.
I’m thankful for Duane’s guitar solo on Blue Sky.
I’m thankful for a nine game win streak against Auburn, a seven game streak against Tech, and a five game streak against the Gators. You young ‘uns out there may not realize just how good we have it these days.
I’m thankful Kirby Smart watched his daddy coach and thought “I want to grow up to be like him.”
I’m thankful for all the folks who write here at Dawg Sports. They are truly in it for the love of the game.
And finally, I’m thankful for all of you who read and comment on the site, whether during football season, basketball season, or fishing season. This place is about to celebrate its twentieth year covering UGA sports from a fan’s perspective after so many sites like it have vanished because you’ve made it a true community. I can never thank you enough for what you’ve helped us build.
Save me a leg and some of Grandma’s macaroni and cheese, and…
Go ‘Dawgs!!!
