Nick Bosa will play against Rams in opener, defensive coordinator says (paywall)
“Nick Bosa is really easy,” Morris said. “You watch this guy do it over a span, a long time in his career, been able to do it at different levels. … Bosa knows his body as well as anybody. He’ll be prepared and ready to go as well as anybody.”
Bosa was on the practice field Tuesday. He went through warmups and participated in position drills. Bosa had the same black sleeve on his right knee that he wore last Wednesday,
and he appeared to be adjusting it frequently.”
Mike Evans downplays missing time: ‘None of my injuries were significant’
“The training staff, they did a great job working with me. I know I’m an older player. I’ve had probably over a thousand practices, football practices in my life now, so I know what I’m doing out there. They know what they’re doing. They did a good job taking care of me. None of my injuries were significant. If it was a game week, I wouldn’t have missed any time.”
The newest 49er had a whirlwind trip to Australia. Now he’ll be needed in the opener (paywall)
“As Kareem, 28, explained, his whirlwind journey actually began a few days earlier, on Aug. 31, when he was cut by the New York Giants. Two days later, the Falcons signed him to their practice squad, and one day after that, the 49ers came calling with a big request — drop everything and get to Australia.
While the 49ers flew on a jumbo charter flight complete with 84 lie-flat seats, Kareem flew commercially — first to the Bay Area on Thursday morning to get a physical, and then on an 11:20 p.m. flight that night out of San Francisco.
Whereas his new teammates had a day to adjust to the 17-hour time difference, Kareem landed Saturday morning and was whisked to his first 49ers practice.
He said he felt surprisingly good despite the long flights. Though he didn’t have the extra-long, lie-flat seats that Trent Williams and Osa Odighizuwa enjoyed, the 49ers hooked him up with a lie-flat-ish seat on the United Airlines flight.
“It was cool,” he said. “I don’t think I’d ever sat in one of those before. But being my size, it’s still a little too small. My feet were mashed up against the wall. So I was kind of tucked in the fetal position, trying to sleep.”
He said the 49ers also gave him a plan for the flight — everything from how much he should drink to when he should sleep to how often he should put on a pair of blue-light glasses.
“I had a little flight kit — melatonin and a hydration package just to help me sleep, so that when I got here, I could perform,” he said. “When I got here, it was a pretty smooth transition.”
49ers coach Kyle Shanahan takes comedy show to Australia with hilarious presser
“When asked about how his team adjusted to the 15-hour flight and time difference, Shanahan relayed what he heard from some of his players.
“Each guy’s different,” he said. “Some guys feel good and feel great, and then you talk to them five hours later, they’re like, ‘Never mind, that left.’ Some guys started off bad and then feel good later.”
Shanahan was asked about the seating configuration on the plane that placed quarterback Brock Purdy behind center Jake Brendel. Was that a coincidence or by design?
“They were doing snaps for 17 straight hours,” Shanahan deadpanned. “No, that was just luck.”
Kawakami: 49ers 2026 season prediction — 12-5 and stronger for surviving all the travel (paywall)
“You might’ve heard that the 49ers have big travel on both sides of this schedule, including three road trips in their last four games — at the Chargers on a Thursday night, at the Chiefs, and at Arizona, sandwiched around a home game against the Eagles.
I’ll add that the Chargers and Cardinals are two short trips that shouldn’t be too draining, especially after the 49ers get seven Levi’s games and a bye from Week 2 through Week 14.
If the 49ers aren’t going through another spate of injury hell, they should go at worst 2-2 in these games — and 3-1 or 4-0 are certainly in play. I think they have built up a decent enough core of young players, especially if this rookie class is as good as it’s looked in the preseason, to run through the tape. And I think Purdy is the kind of quarterback who is built for late runs.
So I’ll guess that the 49ers lose to the Chargers but (with some extra rest) beat the Chiefs, Eagles, and Cardinals … and finish 12-5, probably with a good wild-card berth, just like last year.
I think they’re better than last year, but the schedule is tougher, and though I shrug my shoulders at some of the complaining about the wear and tear of all this travel, I don’t think it’s nothing. A strong team, though, should hold up just fine through it.
I think the 49ers are strong enough to compete with Seattle and the Rams and get into the postseason.”
