The Florida State Seminoles football team once again improved to .500 on the season. With the win over Virginia Tech last Saturday, the Seminoles moved within one game of becoming bowl eligible. After a sluggish first half on the offensive side of the ball, the unit clicked in the second half, scoring 24 of their total 34 points.
The numbers weren’t flashy for quarterback Tommy Castellanos, as he threw for just 189 yards. But the offensive line kept him clean, allowing zero sacks. Overall, the Virginia
Tech defense only picked up two tackles for loss as the Seminoles churned out 237 total yards on the ground. Ousmane Kromah led the way with 59 yards, averaging over five yards a carry. In total, FSU had 10 different ball carriers on the night, utilizing Castellanos, running backs, tight ends, and wide receivers.
Each week, Tomahawk Nation will take a peek at FSU’s PFF Grades along the offensive line, offering insights into the numbers and performances Please note, any player seeing minimal snaps may be excluded due to the small sample size.
The total score is an average of the run and pass blocking scores. The scores will be weighted more towards where the player saw the most action.
- PFF isn’t a perfect scoring system. The graders cannot know 100% of the assignments on each play.
- PFF CFB Scale: 90-100 Elite, 85-89 All-Conference, 70-84 starter, 60-69 Backup, <60 Replaceable
- PFF grades are reevaluated through the week and may lead to changes after publication
Florida State offensive line performance takeaways:
- This was the fourth game of the season (second in the ACC) where the second unit was able to get snaps and valuable experience. For FSU to develop their offensive line in the future, this must happen more consistently.
- Tackles Gunnar Hansen and Micah Pettus both had total scores right under 70. This was the first time since Kent State that the duo scored this high in the same game.
- Jacob Rizy filled in after Richie Leonard IV went down with an injury. This is the third game where the redshirt senior has stepped in for an injury and the third time he has performed well (68.40 total score). Rizy has been one of the most important pieces of the offensive line providing experience and solid depth throughout the year.
