With his goal on Sunday against Wolfsburg, Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane reached 20 goals in the Bundesliga this season (before we even finished the Hinrunde). This makes it three seasons in a row that he has
scored at least 20 league goals. This is the first time in over 60 years that a player has scored 20 or more goals in each of their first three Bundesliga seasons. The last to do it? Friedhelm “Timo” Konietzka.
Konietzka played most of his career with Borussia Dortmund and contributed to their history and to the history of the Bundesliga. He was on the Dortmund team that won the last German Championship before the inception of the Bundesliga. Konietzka also scored the very first goal in the newly-formed Bundesliga, in the first minute of Dortmund’s first match against Werder Bremen. He went on to help Dortmund and 1860 Munich win Bundesliga titles. He also went on to have success as a manager, winning three Swiss league titles.
Back to the current season. With 20 league goals and the whole Bundesliga Rückrunde to go, can Harry Kane chase Robert Lewandowski’s single-season record? Let us know in the comments if you think Kane can equal or best Lewy’s record tally.
