The New York Mets announced today that Mrs. Met made history by being elected to the 2026 class of the Mascot Hall of Fame.
The first female mascot to receive the honor, she joins Mr. Met in the Hall, as the Mets become the first franchise to have two mascots forever immortalized.
No stranger to breaking glass ceilings, Mrs. Met was the first female mascot in American professional sports history when she debuted as Lady Met in the 1960s. Mrs. Met officially became Mr. Met’s better half in the 1970s
before both took a hiatus to focus on their growing family. The power couple returned in the 1990s, before both became an every-game staple at Citi Field in 2013.
Inspiring many to ask, “How did he get her?” Mrs. Met has carried the relationship through several Mr. Met controversies, like obscene gestures and poorly timed mascot shenanigans. Now she takes her rightful place in the Hall alongside her spouse and legends from 10 other former and current MLB franchises.
Mrs. and Mr. Met are both in the Mascot Hall of Fame despite it being founded by the original Phillie Phanatic, David Raymond, proving that our love for mascots transcends divisional rivalries.
The horrible vibes surrounding another disappointing Mets team seem to be improving. The team swept the Guardians in the first series after the club’s busy trade deadline, Jefry Yan has leaped into our hearts, and now Mrs. Met has secured a historic induction into the Hall.
The team has a chance to keep it rolling by playing spoiler in an upcoming road series against the Pirates.
