21-year NBA veteran Chris Paul has announced that he will retire at the end of the 2025-26 season. The announcement came via a social media video that was quickly picked up by news outlets.
Paul currently
plays for the Los Angeles Clippers. Over his two-decade career he has also suited up for the Golden State Warriors, Oklahoma City Thunder, San Antonio Spurs, Houston Rockets, Phoenix Suns, and the New Orleans Pelicans (then Hornets), who selected him fourth overall in the 2005 NBA Draft.
Portland Trail Blazers fans will remember that the Blazers held the third overall pick in that draft. They opted to trade down to the 6th and 27th positions, taking forwards Martell Webster and Linas Kleiza. This led to the oft-posed question here at Blazer’s Edge during discussion of nearly every conceivable move Portland could make: How does this get us Chris Paul?
As it turns out, the Blazers better find an answer to that before next February’s NBA trade deadline or there’s simply not going to be one.
Over the course of his career Paul won Rookie of the Year honors, earned 12 NBA All-Star nods, and finished in the Top 5 in NBA MVP voting five times.
