49ers cancel mandatory minicamp after perfect attendance during OTAs
“With mandatory minicamp no longer on the schedule, the 49ers will have no additional team activities after Thursday until training camp, which is set to begin at the end of July.”
49ers’ K.J. Wright excited about Jaden Dugger, a protege who’s just like him (paywall) “Now, the rookie, drafted in the middle of the fifth round, has an opportunity to be Wright’s first protege since he was promoted to linebackers coach. Though Wright cautioned
that Dugger has plenty to learn, he said his “raw ability” is already evident.
“I love that type of stuff,” Wright said. “I like a guy that I can groom, that I can mold, that I can build. And that I can teach to strike and use their hands. … He’s got a ways to go, obviously, but this guy’s gonna be a really special player. I’m excited for him.”
49ers’ Trent Williams admits current contract will likely be his last
“It’s scary,” Williams said. “I’m toying between the idea of going until I can’t no more and just leaving while I still got some good product left, and not getting ran out of the league.”
“As a father, you feel like, damn, I’ve kind of missed her whole life, kind of until adulthood,” Williams shared. “Part of me wants to, when she goes off to college in a couple of years, I want to be there and be accessible. I don’t want to be that father that shadows a kid. I want to be close. I don’t want to be somewhere at a joint practice when it’s time for her to move into school, and stuff like that.
“So, it’s little stuff I’ve got to think about. Obviously, I can’t tell the future. I don’t know, I’m still a competitor. It’s hard not to compete when you can, so we’ll see.”
49ers’ Mac Jones addresses shoulder soreness, offseason trade rumors
“Just a little soreness in my shoulder,” Jones said on Wednesday. “Everything’s clean and looks good, so just kind of being precautionary, I guess is the word. But yeah, I’ll be ready for training camp…..I think it’s a great organization, and I did a lot of fun stuff last year, but it’s a new year. I feel like this is the first year I’ve had the same offensive playbook, being in the NFL. So, that’s kind of nice.”
Mike Evans ready to be ultimate red-zone weapon for 49ers
“Love Brock,” Evans said. “He’s a big reason why I came here. … Throws a really great ball. I’m getting the timing down with him now. Super smart. He’s about his business, too. Comes to work every single day.
“He’s a quiet guy, but me and him talk about not just football, but life, and really cool guy. I look forward to having a great connection with him this year.”
49ers preseason schedule: Dates, times, and TV info for all three games
“The only remaining unknown was the kickoff time for the 49ers’ preseason opener against the Tennessee Titans at Levi’s Stadium on Thursday, August 13. That game is now set to begin at 6 p.m. PT.”
49ers assistant Matt Eberflus was NFL’s next big coaching star. Now he’s back on his feet after two pink slips (paywall)
“Eberflus, 56, smiled Tuesday when recalling front-yard tackle football games in Toledo, Ohio, with his brother and his sister’s boyfriend. He always wanted to be an all-time defensive player, not the all-time QB. From an early age, grit had more appeal than glamour.
“I’ve always been drawn to the physicality of the game,” Eberflus said. “The violence of the game. And I was that way as a player.”
Raheem Morris provides 49ers updates during OTAs
“[Stout’s a great listener. He’s a great note taker. He’s really locked in. He’s one of the guys that wants to go out and absolutely do it at a very high level every single day. He puts an extreme amount of pressure on himself to be great for his room for himself. I’ve got to find out what his internal why is, but whatever his why is, man, I love it.”
