Expected inclement weather of Saturday led to the Yankees and Orioles moving around their weekend regular season finale and playing two games today on Friday. Today’s opener will feature the CC Sabathia number retirement ceremony that was originally set for tomorrow. After that pomp and circumstance, the Yankees and O’s will get their three game set going.
In the first of today’s games, the Yankees will give the start to Brendan Beck, who was just called up alongside Yerry De los Santos with Luis
Gil and Bradley Hanner farmed out last night. So far, Beck has made three MLB appearances since debuting earlier this season. He has an 8.22 ERA in 7.2 innings, including five runs allowed in 3.2 innings back on July 4th, which was his first career MLB start. Between the playoffs coming up and today now being a doubleheader, the Yankees more than anything will be hoping he can soak up some innings.
Backing up him, the Yankees will be running out their lefty lineup, sending out Paul Goldschmidt and Amed Rosario. Ali Sánchez will be behind the plate before switching with Austin Wells for the nightcap.
With the lefty lineup starting, the Yankees will be facing, as you might guess, a lefty. Trevor Rogers will be going for Baltimore. He has a 4.07 ERA in 165.2 innings this season. This could be his last start with the Orioles after a very up-and-down tenure that began at the 2024 Trade Deadline, as he is a free agent at season’s end.
