Seattle Seahawks president Chuck Arnold and general manager John Schneider sit there on the pier awaiting the buckets of ice and water about to be poured on them, accepting the challenge by the Carolina Panthers to do the Ice Bucket Challenge to raise awareness of ALS. As the buckets are dumped onto them, they add a layer to the challenge and jump into the cold waters of Lake Washington.
The Seahawks have also declared they will be donating to ALS research. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) affects about 30,050 people in the United States, about 15 new people in the United States are diagnosed with it daily.
Former Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson is the most recent high profile case of an ALS diagnosis. Globally, three people per 100,000 are affected by ALS.
John and Chuck nominated former Seahawks assistant GM Nolan Teasley and Andrew Miller of the Minnesota Vikings to keep the challenge going.
