The Eagles offense was able to be efficient for a good portion of Sunday’s game against the Vikings, but halfway through the fourth quarter, Saquon Barkley was tackled and slow to get up. While down on one
knee, Barkley began punching the ground with his right arm as trainers surrounded him. He was able to leave the field under his own power, and was then shown with a team doctor looking at his left shoulder.
Despite this, in the minutes that followed, it turns out Barkley was actually evaluated for a concussion. Ultimately, he was cleared to return and was able to get back on the field with just under two minutes left to play — and the first play call was a Barkley run, so things at least weren’t bad enough to keep him from the action.
Fortunately, the Eagles offense seems to have figured some things out with the passing game, and both A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith had 304 total yards on Sunday and three touchdowns between them. Still, the run game will be a big factor in being able to continue that kind of dominance, and a healthy Barkley is critical to that piece of the puzzle.
Thankfully, Barkley didn’t suffer a concussion, and hopefully whatever else was hurting him after that hit isn’t something that will bother him long term.
