According to Matt Maiocco, the San Francisco 49ers will start second-year pro Connor Colby at left guard over rookie Carver Willis. Maiocco said Willis, who is active, could rotate with Colby.
That’s the correct decision, in my opinion.
It’s a question that was posed on a podcast yesterday: Who will start at left guard once the dust settles- Colby or Willis?

After we both agreed it’d be Colby, here are some of the quotes:
“He has the experience. We’re forgetting about the 55 starts that he came
into the NFL with.”
“He’s a really good athlete, too. He’s not a bad athlete. In my mind, he overthinks himself. He gets into his own head. He’s his own enemy. There are a lot of plays where you’re like, ‘What are you doing? You’re good. You don’t have to do that!”
There’s more offensive line talk about specifics and techniques, where Colby gave away tells from a year ago. Those mistakes made it easy for Chris Foerster a year ago, as some of the cutback lanes that would’ve naturally opened up never came to fruition because of some of the issues Colby had.
So when you hear all offseason about how Colby has improved, and the game has slowed down for him, that’s what the Niners are hoping he shows tonight.
