According to a report from Spanish outlet AS (as captured by German outlet Tz), Bayern Munich made contact with Manchester City over Golden Ball winner Rodri earlier this summer, but quickly realized that the Spanish midfielder was either going to stay put with City or push for a move to Real Madrid.
A move to Bavaria just was not in the cards:
(Rodri)’s outstanding performances landed him on the wish list of numerous top European clubs – apparently including FC Bayern Munich.
As the Spanish sports
newspaper AS recently reported, Bayern Munich were said to have considered signing the midfield maestro in the summer and had even expressed their interest to Manchester City. However, it should also be noted that the Munich club were likely far from being in a serious race for the player, as Rodri had reportedly already decided on his future at an early stage.
His stated goal was and remains solely a move to Real Madrid, which is why he consistently rejected all other offers. Even later approaches from FC Barcelona, triggered by the injury of midfielder Frenkie de Jong, and tentative inquiries from Paris Saint-Germain did not change this.
Bayern Munich has never been shy about kicking the tires on a great player, but rumors have been swirling for months that the 30-year-old midfield wizard want to move to Los Blancos.
Rodri was actually closely linked to Bayern Munich back in 2019 when he was with Atlético Madrid, but that flame could not be rekindled.
