Harry Kane is your 2026 Ballon d’Or winner, and he is the rightful winner of the award. In his acceptance speech, he dedicated a part of it to all the coaches who helped shape who he is now. Vincent Kompany, currently recovering in the hospital, got a shout-out in that segment.
“To Vinnie. I know he’s at home, or still in the hospital. I wish you well, and I hope this has given you a bit of energy. Since I’ve been with you at, I have improved as a player, a person and a leader. I’m glad to be bringing
this trophy back to Bayern,” Kane said in his speech (as captured by X account @iMiaSanMia).
Kompany, who was also nominated for the best coach of the year award, had a big role in Kane’s Ballon d’Or triumph. The Belgian assembled a scary team last season that basically swept aside every team it came up against. Kane was utilized to dangerous effect, scoring goals, creating goals, and doing everything you can ask for from a striker who can do it all.
