Chelsea Academy winger Frankie Runham has joined Championship side Ipswich Town on loan for the rest of the season, as he looks to step up his levels from the U18s. He will initially join their under-21
side.
According to some reports, Stoke City also have an option to make the loan permanent at the end of the season, though that’s not been confirmed by either club in their official announcements. With Chelsea, Runham has 18 months left on the three-year contract he signed in 2024 at the age of 17.
“I’m delighted to be at this massive club. I’ve had a good youth career so far and I’m now looking forward to continuing my progress at Ipswich Town. It’s a huge club that are doing well at the minute in Premier League 2 and in the Championship, so I see the club’s going in the right direction and I feel it’s the right place to give me the right pathway in my career.”

Having just recently turned 19, Runham has been with Chelsea since the age of 8. He used to hold the club record for being our youngest goalscorer in the UEFA Youth League, which was recently broken by Mahdi Nicoll-Jazuli.
Good luck, Frankie!
