I’m not normally a huge fan of Mondays. But the Monday after a win over the Florida Gators is a different kind of day. The sun shines a little brighter. The coffee tastes just a little more robust. And the birds chirp a sweet song that sounds a little like Peter Frampton singing “Baby, I Love Your Way” over a background chorus of sobbing jort wearers.
But alas, the world moves on, and so does the SEC schedule. Your Bulldogs head to Oxford this weekend to take on the Ole Miss Rebels, and the Red and Black
have opened as a 3.5 point road favorite. Perhaps it’s the PTSD from last year’s Sugar Bowl talking, but that feels both about right given what we’ve seen from these teams, and also like way too much credit for a team that chased Trinidad Chambliss around like smoke slipping through a dimly lit forest.
The Rebel Black Bears were last seen pouring it on in the second half to rout the Auburn Tigers 45-15. Our friends over at Red Cup Rebellion were pretty pleased with the result.
We’re still waiting on word about Ellis Robinson, IV’s status as he left the Florida game in the third quarter with what Kirby Smart described as a knee “that tightened up.” While on the surface it doesn’t sound like a structural injury, I get a little nervous when we start talking about cornerbacks and knees. This story will bear watching as the week progresses.
Another story that bears watching? The coaching carousel, which kicked off in Ernest on Sunday with the firing of Mike Norvell at Florida State. Georgia defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann is among the names being discussed for the rebuilding job in Tallahassee. I’m not sure the Seminoles will go the Mark Richt/Kirby Smart route of giving a coordinator his first shot as the top guy, but given that it’s worked out so well for Georgia and a few other programs, perhaps they should consider it rather than a big name retread.
Go ‘Dawgs!!!
