We’ve only seen a brief glance of what Cameron Boozer brings to the court for Duke in the exhibition game against UCF earlier in the week, but it was pretty good: Boozer finished with 33 points, four assists
and 12 rebounds. He’s clearly going to be a major factor for Duke this year and the focus of the offense.
While Boozer made a big splash statistically, As his Chronicle profile points out, his greatest value is simple: his team usually wins.
Boozer and his twin brother Cayden basically won everything in high school and AAU play but you never know for sure until you see someone in person. Joey Beard was a McDonald’s All-American. It’s not always what you think.
In Boozer’s case, it all appears to be true.
Leaving the stats out of it for the moment, he showed off a highly mature game, something well beyond his 18 years.
He has a lot of challenges ahead of him and he’s going to be the focus of every defense, but a guy who can play inside or outside, who can pass and drive, who seems to have all the skills – he has a brilliant future ahead of him. He’ll only be at Duke for one year, but it’s going to be a lot of fun to watch him.
