Michigan Wolverines head coach Kyle Whittingham offered some injury updates on Monday morning during his weekly press conference. He spoke about offensive lineman Andrew Babalola and edge rusher Carter Meadows, and it’s a bit of a good news/bad news situation regarding those two.
Starting with the bad — Babalola “had a setback,” per Whittingham, and he “will not be available in the near future, unfortunately.”
Babalola is still waiting to make his long-awaited Michigan debut after missing his entire freshman campaign with a torn ACL. He has yet to play in Michigan’s first two games this year.
The former five-star prospect was one of the most highly-touted offensive line recruits in the country, but he just hasn’t been able to get on the field for the Wolverines quite yet. Babalola was competing with Blake Frazier for the starting left tackle position throughout fall camp, before that went by the wayside when Babalola suffered his injury setback.
Now for the good news — Whittingham said that Meadows “should be good to go” for the upcoming game as the Wolverines host UTEP in the non-conference finale on Saturday.
Meadows missed the first two games of this season with an undisclosed injury, but he returned to practice last week. Now he appears to be in line to suit up for the first time this weekend.
The true freshman edge rusher received a lot of praise from his coaches and teammates this fall, and if he isn’t able to play this weekend, Meadows should be able to make his debut sooner rather than later.
Michigan will take on UTEP at 3:30 p.m. on Big Ten Network this Saturday.
