The Philadelphia Eagles will be without starting quarterback Jalen Hurts for the remainder of the 2026 NFL season.
Multiple NFL insiders reported as much on Monday morning.
Hurts’ agent, Nicole Lynn, and the Eagles also issued a joint statement with an update on Hurts’ status:
Over the last few days, Jalen Hurts has received comprehensive medical evaluations by physician experts. In the interest of transparency, we are providing additional information on the diagnosis and treatment plan related to his
condition.
Jalen was initially diagnosed by specialists in London with a left calf superficial vein thrombosis. After further testing and monitoring, the current diagnosis is a deep vein thrombosis, as well as bilateral pulmonary emboli. He is clinically stable and has no significant functional limitations. His treatment should only involve anticoagulation (ie. “blood thinners”). During this time, he will not be allowed to participate in any contact activities, including football.
Jalen’s prognosis is very good, and we expect a full recovery. We anticipate that he will have the opportunity to resume contact football activities when off the blood thinners. In the meantime, he will remain active around the team and continue to condition. More importantly, we anticipate that he will have no long-term effects.
We are thinking of Jalen and looking forward to a strong recovery.
Wow, that’s scary. But it’s good to hear optimism about his outlook. We are all rooting for him to get better.
It feels weird to pivot to the football ramifications of this news but it’s the reality the Eagles themselves in as well.
Tanner McKee is now the quarterback for the rest of the season. That is, unless they Eagles decide to eventually bench him for Cole Payton, Joe Milton III, or someone not currently on the roster. (We know it won’t be Andy Dalton, because he reportedly declined to re-sign with the Eagles and joined the Atlanta Falcons instead.)
We’ll have more on this developing story. Check back often for updates.
