Welcome to The Linc, the daily Philadelphia Eagles links roundup at Bleeding Green Nation!
I don’t think the Giants will be trading for Saquon Barkley. But the G-Men sure could be buyers as they currently approach the NFL trade deadline with an NFC East lead.
Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles news and links …
Saquon Barkley trade proposals: Six deals Eagles could consider, including stunning Giants reunion – CBS Sports
Giants receive: Saquon Barkley … Eagles receive: Cam Skattebo, 2027 second-round
pick, 2027 sixth-round pick … In such a weak NFC East, the division-leading Giants have a path to the playoffs, but they need a functional run game to get there. Even with their abundance of options, it seems John Harbaugh does not know who to deploy at running back (especially if you ask Najee Harris). Reuniting with Barkley eliminates all questions. Plus, Harbaugh himself said this week that it would be “great” to be in a “Saquon Barkley circumstance” where the Giants had a clear-cut No. 1 ballcarrier. A return to New York makes plenty of sense for Barkley, but it would likely cost the Giants a premium to pull it off, given the intra-division nature of the trade. For multiple years of control of the Eagles’ star running back, they may have to part with their own top running back asset in addition to meaningful draft capital.
Eagles vs. Cowboys Week 7 game information – BGN
The Philadelphia Eagles are now 2-4 heading into their Week 7 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football, and both NFC East teams desperately need a win. Expectations have changed a lot for the Eagles, whose list of injured players includes nearly half of the active 53-man roster, but this is still a rivalry game in Philadelphia on Monday night. It might not be the same as when Jalen Hurts greets the team out of the tunnel, but they are getting some guys back, including Saquon Barkley.
‘Other’ potentially outgoing Eagles players who make sense as trade bait – PhillyVoice
RG Tyler Steen (26). Why should the Eagles trade him? Steen is scheduled to be a free agent next offseason, and the Eagles may not be willing to afford what he could be paid on the open market. Note: Steen is a more valuable trade chip than Landon Dickerson, in my opinion, but we didn’t include him in the original batch of valuable, tradable players on the premise that the Eagles would need him just to get through the season. But that was before it was revealed that Jalen Hurts was done for the season. Now? “Getting through this season” isn’t quite as important. Why should other teams trade for him? There are always teams in desperate need of offensive line help, and Steen is a decent enough starter. Trade value: Fourth- and sixth-round picks.
Breaking down Cowboys-Eagles MNF matchup in wide-open NFC East – ESPN
Nick Sirianni has a 61-28 record since taking over as coach in Philadelphia, has led the team to five playoff appearances in as many seasons and has gotten to the Super Bowl twice, winning one of them. You’d think he’d have a good bit of equity built up. That’s being tested in 2026 with the Eagles in a four-game skid, dropping their record to 5-9 over the past 14 games dating to last season. Sirianni’s in-game decision-making has had a hand in the current losing streak, though a depleted roster hit by injury, retirement (Lane Johnson) and trade (Cam Jurgens) is the primary culprit. The offense is lost right now and has had its share of issues during his tenure. Sirianni is a former offensive coordinator but the Eagles have outsourced a good chunk of those responsibilities, with mixed results. If they hit on their offensive coordinator, the team tends to have great success and that OC often moves on to become a head coach. If they miss, the offense sags, the OC gets let go and they’re back on the merry-go-round. It remains to be seen if that’s a ride management wants to continue to sign up for.
Eagles-Cowboys questions: More on the Jalen Hurts saga, Saquon Barkley’s return – The Athletic
Berman: My prevailing takeaway is that the Cowboys have the talent advantage. In the past five years, there haven’t been many times when you felt the Eagles entered games with inferior personnel, but injuries and exits have made that the Eagles’ reality. That will be the difference Monday. Both teams are struggling and underperforming. Both teams badly need a win. I don’t see enough offensive firepower from the Eagles, and I’m not sure they’ll have enough of a pass rush to limit the Cowboys. The path to a win is a strong ground game to control the clock and Vic Fangio’s unit pressuring Dak Prescott and limiting Dallas to field goals. The Eagles have lost four straight and are home underdogs for a reason. A bad season gets worse Monday. Cowboys 24, Eagles 21
NFL, NFLPA are “working together” to review Jalen Hurts situation – PFT
As another full Sunday of football approaches, there’s a new development in the situation regarding Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, who is likely out for the rest of the year after a “superficial” blood clot became a deep vein thrombosis and blood clots in each lung. “The NFL and NFL Players Association are working together to review the matter,” the league and the union said in a joint statement. This implies that the NFLPA, as mentioned earlier today, has not yet officially exercised its unilateral right to conduct an investigation under Article 39, Section 5(f) of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Still, some sort of an investigation is inevitable.
How Kenny Moore II gained perspective in a unique offseason – NBCSP
Kenny Moore II grew up loving scrapbooks. He loved seeing pictures on the wall. He loved creating that art. Truth be told, he wanted to be a photographer. Then he became a professional football player and that’s a good life too. But he missed photography. “In the football environment, I put the camera down,” Moore said a few weeks ago, “because I felt like art and sports were just not a thing, like you shouldn’t do this. So I did that for a couple years. Because I put myself in a space that football is all that matters.” In the last year, Moore has picked up the camera again. He’s still a motivated NFL football player and has already cracked the Eagles’ starting lineup after joining the team last month. He still wants to be the best version of himself he can be between the white lines. But he refuses to be only that. He wants to be much more. There’s something healthy about that.
NFL Week 7 Bets: Matchups to target – PFF
And while the sample size is small for Tanner McKee, he has struggled against disruption throughout his career, particularly against perfect coverage, where he has lost nearly 0.75 EPA per play across his 150 total career dropbacks. Betting tips: I’ll be targeting Eagles team total unders, Dallas alternate spreads and parlays featuring plenty of sacks and turnovers by Philadelphia’s offense.
Why the Eagles Are In Salary Cap Trouble, and How They Can Get Out of It – SI
And that brings us to the other way this strategy can be stressed: by an unexpected injury, decline or retirement from a key player. In this case, it was Carson Wentz, who got a record-breaking contract in early 2019, and fell apart thereafter, in part due to an accumulation of injuries. Long story short, the Eagles traded Wentz, which meant (unlike a post–June 1 cut), they had to take all his dead money at once, and that $33.8 million accounted for a large percentage of the $59 million (or so) in total dead money they carried that year. With the lower limit, that meant roughly a third of Philly’s cap was occupied by players who weren’t on the team. That team started 3–6, then rallied to finish 9–8 and sneak in the playoffs. So what was the fix? The Eagles drafted well, got really young and developed a rising layer of young players to supplement an older core. In their playoff loss to the Buccaneers that season, their quarterback and every single skill player who touched the ball was on a rookie contract. And with the cap cleaned out after they ate dead money for a year, they got aggressive in 2022, acquiring guys like Brown, Haason Reddick, C.J. Gardner-Johnson and Robert Quinn (Quinn shows these moves don’t all work out), and made the Super Bowl. This year, they’ve faced some similar unforeseen circumstances. Lane Johnson, their all-world tackle of 14 seasons, retired. The Ravens offered a second-round pick for Cam Jurgens, capital that could be used to get younger (like the capital in the Wentz trade once was), and they couldn’t say no. Hurts’s blood clots, first discovered before the team’s London game and found to be more serious last week, will likely sideline him for the rest of 2026. The season’s gone sideways. Maybe they can win a wounded NFC East. Maybe not. Their next steps, either way, will be interesting.

Giants-Texans ‘things I think’: The Giants are in it to win it – Big Blue View
That was New York Giants head coach John Harbaugh after Sunday’s stunning 27-21 overtime victory over the Houston Texans. The words got my attention. Because they, stunningly, feel like the truth. The Giants are 4-2-1 and leading the NFC East. They will still be leading the division after the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys, both 2-4, play on Monday Night Football. The outside world can, and will, snicker at the NFC East. They can, and will, snicker at the Giants. It is hard to blame them. The Eagles have had a stunning fall. They are without Jalen Hurts for the remainder of the season, and the situation surrounding his blood clots could embarrass both the Eagles and the NFL. They have myriad injuries beyond Hurts, and an offensive line that does not resemble the dominant one they possessed not long ago.
J.J. McCarthy’s redemption arc is bad news for the Vikings – SB Nation
There’s an inherent risk in anointing anyone as “back” based on a single game; we all know this. It’s also impossible to ignore that J.J. McCarthy marched the Giants offense into Houston, and dismantled the defense without it looking particularly difficult. It wasn’t always pretty from McCarthy, especially late in the game — but that didn’t matter. When the dust settled, he still finished 20-for-28, and 272 yards. Touchdowns eluded McCarthy, but critically so did interceptions. What he did was exactly what a John Harbaugh quarterback needs to do: manage what he could, didn’t overextend, and controlled the game to the point the defense and run game could carry them over the line. There are unquestionably things McCarthy still needs to work on. While his short passing over the middle of the field was good, he’s still not comfortable throwing deep into the middle and threading the ball against high safety coverage. The Giants’ QB only attempted four passes in the middle third of the field, only one of which was completed for 10+ yards. This is a skill he needs to develop in order to become a complete quarterback, because making comfortable outside throws with beneficial leverage is only part of playing the position in the NFL. The Texans used a strategy that took the middle of the field away, but there were still opportunities left on the table. Middle field plays are where teams most often generate explosives through YAC, and ignoring that will stifle the offensive potential of the Giants. Nevertheless, the team won. It was a big win, a signature win — and helps cement New York as a team to watch in the East.
5 things to watch when the Cowboys play the Eagles – Blogging The Boys
Don’t get complacent. With the Eagles’ offense visibly short-handed and struggling, the Cowboys have no excuse not to seize total control of this game right from the onset. Unfortunately, dominating in any fashion has simply not been the Cowboys’ way. They start games remarkably slow, and unnecessarily set the stage for an intense, frantic finish. If the Cowboys allow that sluggish script to play out again, this game will be destined for another frustrating evening. What will be incredibly frustrating to watch is if this turns into a boring, low-scoring affair where the Cowboys’ offense becomes completely complacent because they feel the punchless Eagles simply don’t possess the firepower to make any type of push. That is stinkin’ thinkin’ because the Cowboys’ defense is not reliable enough to safely protect a lead and could completely fall apart at any moment. The offense must attack, establish a lead, and keep attacking if they want to leave Philadelphia with a commendable, respected showing.
Tyler’s Take – Is Commanders GM Adam Peters using Dan Quinn as his fall guy? – Hogs Haven
There is ZERO doubt in my mind that Adam Peters wants this to be his team and he probably views head coach Dan Quinn as a dead man walking, which is why he may be, as Candi subtly hints, meddling. Is Adam Peters using Dan Quinn as his “fall guy”? Does he TRULY believe his players are not the problem and it’s more on the coaches?
