Maryland women’s soccer struggled to find offensive production in 2025; and now its top weapon is leaving. Forward Kelsey Smith has elected to enter the transfer portal for her final year of eligibility following a breakout season as a captain in 2025, she announced Saturday on TikTok.
The forward led the Terps through a difficult 2025 campaign, logging a team-high six goals and 14 points from the left wing. Despite her efforts,
Maryland struggled throughout the season and finished with a 6-11-1 record.
Her announcement comes just days after a separate post on Instagram thanked Maryland for her time in the program.
“Forever grateful for the memories, this place, and these amazing people. Thank you,” Smith’s post said.
This move marks the second year in a row where Maryland has lost its brightest star to the transfer portal, as it lost Kennedy Bell last year following her breakout year. In 2025, Bell led the Big Ten with 11 goals and 28 assists for Michigan State.
