Every year during our annual Report Card series here at Pinstripe Alley, we’re generally pretty thorough with who we grade. Obviously, we do full reports on the Aaron Judges and Max Frieds of the roster, but we also will take in depth looks at the likes of J.C Escarra and Ryan Yarbrough.
However, there are some players who just didn’t play for quite enough to merit a full analysis. Today, we’re going to round up some of those names by issuing a grade for the collection of pitchers who made up the back
end of the 2025 Yankees’ roster, in alphabetical order.
Misc. Pitchers Collective Grade: C
Clayton Beeter
Stats: 3.2 IP, 14.73 ERA, 12.95 FIP, -0.3 fWAR
Once a decently rated prospect that came back in the trade that sent Joey Gallo to the Dodgers, the Yankees fully transitioned Beeter into a bullpen role. He was decent in the minors, but was lit up in his handful of MLB appearances before being sent to the Nationals in the Amed Rosario trade.
Jake Bird
Stats: 2.0 IP, 27.00 ERA, 15.14 FIP, -0.2 fWAR
Bird was a pretty brutal miss in the attempt to rebuild the bullpen at the Trade Deadline in 2025, but there’s hope a full year in the Yankees’ system could get the former Rockies pitcher back on track for 2026.
Paul Blackburn
Stats: 15.1 IP, 5.28 ERA, 4.37 FIP, 0.0 fWAR
A late-season depth pickup, Blackburn pitched like…a late-season depth pickup.
JT Brubaker
Stats: 16.0 IP, 3.38 ERA, 3.76 FIP, 0.1 fWAR
Brubaker was perfectly solid in his big league time with the Yankees, but he was DFA’ed after the Yankees made their Trade Deadline bullpen moves and ended up leaving for the Giants.
Carlos Carrasco
Stats: 32.0 IP, 5.91 ERA, 5.35 FIP, -0.1 fWAR
It feels like so long ago, but it was just this past year that Carrasco started the season in the Yankees’ rotation. Injuries led to the Yankees taking a chance on him after a good spring training, but he couldn’t quite keep that going, and was eventually demoted and then traded to the Braves in a minor cash considerations deal.
Yerry De Los Santos
Stats: 35.2 IP, 3.28 ERA, 3.44 FIP, 0.3 fWAR
Another hard-luck demotion after the deadline, De Los Santos is still in the Yankees’ organization and will almost certainly get another shot with the team in 2026.
Scott Effross
Stats: 10.2 IP, 8.44 ERA, 4.07 FIP, 0.0 fWAR
Having missed most of the last two MLB seasons with injuries, Effross struggled at both the MLB and MiLB levels last year, leading to him getting non-tendered.
Yoendrys Gómez
Stats: 10.0 IP, 2.70 ERA, 6.14 FIP, -0.2 fWAR
Having been around the organization for a while, Gómez got DFAed to make room for a later entry on this list, Tyler Matzek, and has since been hot potato’ed around by a couple other teams.
Geoff Hartlieb
Stats: 1.1 IP, 40.50 ERA, 15.89 FIP, -0.1 fWAR
I hate to say it, I hope I don’t sound ridiculous, I don’t know who this man is. I mean, he could be walking down the street, I wouldn’t know a thing. Sorry to this man.
Brent Headrick
Stats: 23.0 IP, 3.13 ERA, 3.83 FIP, 0.1 fWAR
He didn’t appear for the Yankees in the majors after mid-August, but Headrick was solid enough to keep around for next year. Aaron Boone does like him and expressed optimism about him just yesterday.
Tyler Matzek
Stats: 6.1 IP, 4.26 ERA, 3.29 FIP, 0.1 fWAR
Matzek was a 2021 champion with the Braves, and had enough pedigree to get a chance with the 2025 Yankees, but he didn’t end up doing much.
Adam Ottavino
Stats: 1.2 IP, 0.00 ERA, 6.74 FIP, 0.0 fWAR
The Yankees brought back Ottavino for a brief reunion early in the season, but by the end of it, he was making guest appearances on the YES pregame and postgame shows. He has a fun YouTube channel anyway.
Jayvien Sandridge
Stats: 0.2 IP, 27.00 ERA, 30.14 FIP, -0.1 fWAR
Sandridge didn’t do a ton in his very brief time with the big league Yankees, but is still around the organization at this time.
Allan Winans
Stats: 9.1 IP, 8.68 ERA, 6.24 FIP, -0.1 fWAR
One trivia tidbit about this season is that Winans is one of the 11 Yankees to have made a pitching start in 2025, having gone on June 23rd against the Reds in a spot appearance. You’d be forgiven for forgetting that (excellent Triple-A season notwithstanding).
